Deep Linking occurs when someone posts a comment and uses a website link that is an Internal Link for that domain.
Very few, if any, comment scripts allow linking to internal pages since the home page typically has the most stability and highest PR.
You want links pointing to as many of your site's internal pages as possible with the exact phrase and keywords for each page, the best way to do this is with article marketing.

While it is indeed the case that most people develop from a top down approach the way that Body By Chocolates works is more of a bottom up approach to web design.
If a person visits our front page it is nothing more than a genuine greeting welcoming them to our site. This also gives me the ability to have a variety of portals for each and every one of my team members which I build and give to them for free.
Optimum would be for their visitors not to see the actual front page of the site but rather their individual portal which is accessed by selecting their name. Even then you are not at the heart of Body By Chocolates as we are providing a free sample offer at this point to those who would like to indulge.
Once that is finished a person accesses the actual heart of our system and thus 3 layers deep is where they find our website. It’s a different approach to web design, but one that works quite well for our purposes.
None-the-less, your point is well taken. Deep links are best achieved via article marketing, social networking & other such methods than comment moderation.
Thanks for the info.
You are correct in stating that you want as many quality links as possible to your internal pages as possible. You also want as many quality inbound links as possible to your home page.
Commenting on blogs is, in my opinion, a poor way to get a quality inbound link because very few webmasters will let you use the anchor text for your link that will help you the most. They have a very good reason for this and that is the fact that readers want to know who wrote the comment and anchor text does not give that information.
The anchor text you use in hyperlinks in the resource box of an article submitted to an article directory is controlled by you AND the page on your website or blog that the link points to is usually a page targeting a 3-6 word phrase that is easier to rank for than the primary keywords associated with your domain and home page.
As more of your interior pages show on the first page of results in the major search engines the higher your home page will climb for your primary keywords.
Blog comment are a better forum for branding your name and showing your knowledge of the subject.

Hello Gina
Great article. Thank you.
I recommend Moving Companies and although I’ve always known to try and get back links right into the internal pages of my website, your blog made me realise that I could also do this for my Moving Companies to help with their page ranking as well.
Thanks. I’m now following you on Twitter
